B. What is the Nepal Thyroid Eye Disease Registry?
The Nepalese Society for Oculoplastic Surgeons (NESOS) has launched the Nepalese Thyroid Eye Disease Registry to collect information about thyroid eye disease (TED) in Nepal. TED is a condition that affects the eyes, usually in people with an overactive thyroid gland. The registry will help doctors and researchers understand the condition better and develop better treatments for patients.
C. Who are the Investigators?
NESOS in association with Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) are the researchers. NESOS is the only society of the orbital and oculofacial plastic surgeons of Nepal with 43 active members. Oculoplastic surgeons treat the conditions related to the eyelids, tear drainage pathway, bony orbit and orbital contents pathologies, ophthalmic tumors and oculofacial aesthetics.
D. Why is the registry important?
The Registry is important because it will help doctors and researchers understand the prevalence, natural course, and management of TED in Nepal. The registry will also help to identify the factors that may increase the risk of developing TED, such as genetics or environmental factors. This information can help doctors provide better care to patients with TED and develop new treatments for the condition
